Children’s Liturgy
Studying the Word of God
The Liturgy of the Word for Children has become an essential part of forming our children in the Word of God as contained in the Scriptures.
During the Liturgy of the Word at Sunday Mass, the children hear the same readings from a children’s edition of the Bible and discuss the meaning of the Word for the week, discuss points and then complete a related activity. The children return at the offertory, bringing their work to share with the congregation, and take part in the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
If you have a creative mind, a zeal for faith and are good with children you could help our children appreciate the Word of God by becoming a catechist for Childrens Liturgy. Contact Josie Ellis, Katherine Urding (St Frances of Rome) or Mary McGrath (St Mary’s) for further information. Activity bags are available at the back of church for small children during Mass.
If you are a parent with young children (under 8 and have not made First Holy Communion) the group can help your child with their understanding of the message contained in the Mass for the week. While they are with the group you can spend time more freely reflecting the Word at Mass.
